Apps and Tune In
  • RadioOKCRadioOKC May 2011
Ok guys, I have a question. I do have all the extras on my package and I do show up on
the tune-in website. I am streaming on Loudcaster at 128K mp3. When I look up my station
at tune in, it says i need to download a compatable player, so here are my questions (please
keep in mind I am more of a radio guy then a computer guy so too much compujargon will
    only confuse me more lol!):

    1. Is Tune in streaming in another format other than mp3?

    2. Have heard that aac+ is what is compatable with iPhone
exc. Is my mp3 stream being converted to aac+ by them?

Finally, I dont have an iphone OR android (forthcoming)
are any of you that have the app able to hear my station
    "Radio OKC" on those devices?

    Thanks for everything!!

Ok so if I'm understanding you correctly right now your trying to stream your station from Tunein's website with a pc and later you maybe getting a droid? For the pc I recommend winamp pro or iTunes both will stream .pls links and handle aac+ as well as mp3. For the droid there is XiiaLiveLite, android Online Radio or Tunewiki and of course TuneIn all for free.

Your radio stream is only in aac+ mode : 24 kbts and 64 kbts. You don't have a stream in mp3 ! tune-in website can't play acc+ stream.
The streaming at 128 kbts mp3 is what you use to connect to Loudcaster, but it not's a stream that someone can hear!!!
If you want, you can change the 64 kbts streaming in mp3 mode, (and change the 24 in 32 kbts aac+) in the dj-dashboard/Menage Effects.
Some applications are avalilable for all types of smartphones (tune-in app is free for BlackBerry and work fine with mp3 and acc+)

Ok - so am I correct in my thinking that my
station is on the tuned in application for
Blackberry, iPhone and android and there
is nothing that I need to do to make it
    compatable with mobile streaming?

Also when I launch the station off of
the lodcaster site, that is actually in
    aac+ correct??

Thanks for helping this tech idiot lol!

    If streaming live at 128k mp3, your stream will be re-encoded by Loudcaster to the file type and bitrate you selected in your Broadcaster Dashboard. If you are asked to download a compatible player on the TuneIn site, you probably stream in AAC+. I use iTunes as my default player for AAC+ stations on TuneIn. I will post a link to media players I know work with the TuneIn site;

    iTunes-http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    RealPlayer-http://www.real.com/
    VLC Media Player-http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

As for mobile apps, TuneIn has their own app that's available for most smartphones.

    TuneIn for the Android-https://market.android.com/details?id=tunein.player&feature=search_result
    TuneIn for Blackberry-http://radiotime.com/mobile/blackberry
    TuneIn for Windows Mobile-http://tunein.com/mobile/windows/
TuneIn for iPhone-http://radiotime.com/mobile/iphone Or just go to the App Store directly to download.

Windows Media Player can stream AAC+ streams if you install the AAC plugin found here:

Can someone explain exactly what the relationship is between LoudCaster and Tune-in? Why is it some stations are listed but have no available stream, others are listed but have only an incompatible stream, where some stations are not listed at all.
My station could previously be listened to through Tune-in but now, for some reason a message appears that "This station is not currently available over the internet using TuneIn"
  • JackJack May 2011
Well, my second station is one that I am paying an optional fee to be listed on tunein (but not shoutcast) and I just discovered that I see the "This station is not currently available over the internet using TuneIn" is being displayed also. There is a link where you can add the URL to the stream, but I don't know what it is. Since I am paying extra, I would like to see it working. Does anyone know what the URL is for the stream and not the streaming page? On the first station I believe it was just included in the price I pay and it works on tunein and shoutcast. I looked at that station to see what the stream URL is, but it doesn't show.
  • 50s4ever50s4ever May 2011
What do you mean an optional fee?
  • reaperreaper May 2011
Skipper, that is something I mentioned in another thread. One of my stations is not streaming on TuneIn but I also pay for it to stream there. I had sent in a support ticket Thursday and then it was back up for a bit. But sometime Friday it went down. At this point I am just worried about keeping things going at another streaming host. I wish I was more help, sorry.
  • 50s4ever50s4ever May 2011
Am I to understand that the optional fee mentioned is paid to tune-in for a NON LoudCaster station?
  • reaperreaper May 2011
No, Loudcaster has an option to pay extra to have your station listed on TuneIn's site. It was implemented a few month's back.
  • 50s4ever50s4ever May 2011
Hmmm... I never heard about it. So where in the dashboard do I find that option?
  • reaperreaper May 2011
It's in the Broadcaster Dashboard under "Manage Resources". If you signed up to broadcast before they implemented these new settings, there is a good chance they are not available to you. You can ask to be switched over like I did. I wanted to dump the Shoutcast listing.
  • DocDoc May 2011
Why is it that NO stations seem to play when I visit tunein, not even my own???. And if this was incl with LC where is it???
  • reaperreaper May 2011
Doc, I restarted my DJ Bot for PHR and it showed up on TuneIn again. I will see how long this lasts. Th fact that it's happening to only one of my stations makes me think is got to be the server that those stations that are streaming on is malfunctioning. FYI, PHR went from 2 listeners up to 22 after it was re-listed on TuneIn.
  • DocDoc May 2011
Hmmm...well I just tried several stations, some right here where I live, and I hear nothing. On another note, I see where I have the TuneIn option for my other station which I stared recently but not for Classic Hits Radio, and the cost is $5/mo. So if someone is paying for this service, I'd like to know WHY we don't hear anything...???
  • DocDoc May 2011
And now I see where comments in the forums are not getting through to me...God what a pain this is..
  • reaperreaper May 2011
Older stations are automatically listed on both Shoutcast and TuneIn as part of their package. The newer stations have the option to use these services at an added fee. I wouldn't get bent out of shape over it, if you used them for CHR, your costs would probably increase.
  • DocDoc May 2011
Yeah I think it must have been included and I see now it's a $5 option Leo. Pete, you should have been included as you signed up right after me in November...
  • 50s4ever50s4ever May 2011
Well, I guess that's why I don't see it. So what you are telling me is: If I signed up to LoudCaster before these "new settings" were implemented the Tune-in (previously known as Radio Time) listing that I had has been removed and if I want it back I have to pay more. Is this correct?
  • DocDoc May 2011
Pete, you shouldn't have to pay, as when you joined up (right after me, same month) this was INCLUDED with your subscription. That's the way I see it. I'm there on TuneIn and it was incl. with MY subscription at least. Now I can't get tune in anyone!

ps: Maybe it depends on the pkg. you have. I have the FULL deal.
  • reaperreaper May 2011
I don't think you lose anything unless you switch to the new packages. If you haven't switched, your station should be listed on both sites automatically.
  • 50s4ever50s4ever May 2011
The only options I have on my "Manage Resources" page is Listener limit and Storage limit. What is a "Full Deal"?
  • reaperreaper May 2011
Well, that didn't last long. PHR is dead again on TuneIn.
  • 50s4ever50s4ever May 2011
OK I just checked over at Tune-In and the Listen link is back. I haven't done anything and I don't know why it was there, then wasn't & now is again. Maybe it was a glitch in Tune-in. I still don't have any other options though other than I listed above. I guess it is included in my package after all.
  • DocDoc May 2011
Yeah it should have been Pete...Seems as though TuneIn has a problem...big surprise!
  • 50s4ever50s4ever May 2011
Would have been nice if we had been informed of these (and any other) changes. Would have prevented a lot of confusion.
  • DocDoc May 2011
Yeah I agree...odd how this sometimes DOESN'T happen.
  • DocDoc May 2011
Here's a lame excuse I just got from TuneIn:

"The station's internet stream appears to be working for other users. You can try reinstalling Windows Media player and Adobe Flash player, try resetting your browsers security settings, or try another station."

I doubt this is the problem!
  • 50s4ever50s4ever May 2011
Doc, I can listen to both of your stations through Tune-in. The Classic hits Radio uses the Tune-in player but the Classic Old Time Radio uses my own default player.
  • DocDoc May 2011
Wtf???. I can't get either to play??

    UPDATE: Now it works...Hmmmm
  • KeolKeol May 2011
Tunein has been weird for the last few days.....Earlier, Chronix wasn't coming through.
  • reaperreaper May 2011
I think Adobe pushed out another Flash Player update in the last day or so. That might be what's causing the problem.
