A great way to integrate your station(s) with Facebook
  • koshermetalkoshermetal April 2011
    Hey fellow broadcasters,

I thought that I would let you all know about this app on Facebook called IWIPA. It's awesome for creating a space for your Facebook followers to tune in directly from your page (without violating the TOS with LC).

You basically can create a "Listen" tab which can include multiple pages. Also, the really cool feature is that you can choose to make it so that users need to "like" the fan page in order to view its contents. I can't really explain all that it can do for you, but I would highly recommend looking into it if you want to leverage Facebook.

Check out how the Kosher Metal Facebook page is setup at http://www.facebook.com/KosherMetalOfficial - that might give you an idea of how the integration works. I have no affiliation with IWIPA at all, I just wanted to share the knowledge with you guys.

    Horns up \m/
  • reaperreaper April 2011
Thanks for the heads up, I will have to check it out.
  • triptrip April 2011
I think it's too many steps. click, then go to your website, then have to click again.
How come you just didn't link to your lc broadcast page?
  • koshermetalkoshermetal April 2011
I did that as well, click on the Now Playing tab on the IWIPA box. They don't allow iFrame's on the "Home" page of the app (per Facebook TOS). I suppose I could change the link on first tab to go to the LC page directly, but I did it the way it is now so the user knew that we actually had a website as well. One could just as easily click the Now Playing tab to see what we're playing now and then click out to the LC page.
  • looks cool
  • DocDoc April 2011
Looks pretty smooth I must say. Can this be implemented with an existing FB page or would I need to start a NEW page?.
  • koshermetalkoshermetal April 2011
Doc, do you have an existing Fan page for a business or is it a personal page?
  • triptrip April 2011
I'm gonna give it a whirl later, too tired right now, would probably mess it up.
  • DocDoc April 2011
I have one for Classic Hits Radio, but I don't think it's a "fan" page as such.
  • koshermetalkoshermetal April 2011
@Doc It might work on a personal page, and you might be able to choose to require "non-friends" to be friends in order to listen, but that's up to you. I'm not entirely sure it will work on a personal page though. Personally, I would start up a fan page (page for business) as a radio station and do a Facebook ad campaign for the page in addition to suggesting the page to all your friends (I have a java code that will select all your friends at once to avoid repetitive clicking). Ads are REALLY cheap too if you go CPM and not CPC. For example 1000 impressions for 45-60 cents, but usually cheaper. My last campaign avg'd .19 cents per 1000 impressions.
  • koshermetalkoshermetal April 2011
@Doc You're already set up with a Fan page. As long as it's something you can "like" then you can fully integrate IWIPA. Just go to the app section under Edit Page and search for IWIPA. It may take a few mins to really get familiar with it's features and work out the kinks of your page, but once you're done it's a killer feature!
  • DocDoc April 2011
Thanks very much koshermetal...I'll do just that too!. Kudos my friend :)

    ..

  • reaperreaper April 2011
This is a nice find. I finally figured out how to use their editor. What's nice is if you don't have hosting, you can just upload images to their server. Anyway, this is what I came up with, just click on tune in in the menu on the left:

  • koshermetalkoshermetal April 2011
Right on reaper! I noticed you didn't make it so that the user had to be a fan to see the page though. Personally, I think that's one of the strongest features of the app. But it's looks good!
  • reaperreaper April 2011
I looked at that but I don't want to make it any harder to tune in than I have to. But we'll see, I might change it who knows :-). Thanks for the input though.
  • triptrip April 2011
I couldn't figure out how to upload anything. I don't have a css editor, so gues I'm S.O.L.
  • reaperreaper April 2011
It has wysiwyg editor and is fairly easy to use. From there is where you would upload graphics.
  • triptrip April 2011
I'll look at it again. Thanks Leo
  • DocDoc April 2011
Leo...I get dick when I click on either of your 2 players. Both take me to some odd-ball website but NOT LC or L365...????
  • reaperreaper April 2011
They work for me. Not sure what's going on there. What site do they link to?
  • DocDoc April 2011
Yeah I clicked on the TUNE-IN link and then clicked on L365 and LC and got zip...says the site doesn't exist..???
  • DocDoc April 2011
Firstly, I don't see any PLAY buttons so when I click on where they should be I get some site called "heroku"..???
  • koshermetalkoshermetal April 2011
Leo, make sure your links in your page editor are listed as HTTP in all caps. It may not be related to what Doc is saying, but that can sometimes cause issues if the user is using Facebook using https.
  • reaperreaper April 2011
I wonder if you have to "like" the page to listen? Just a guess.

Unless you are using Firefox. The ad blocker could be blocking the app.
  • reaperreaper April 2011
OK Kosher. I will double check.
  • DocDoc April 2011
    Using GC Leo...
  • reaperreaper April 2011
I just switched to Chrome and had no problems. Maybe the app only works in the country you reside. I don't know.
  • DocDoc April 2011
    Well wtf's up I wonder??...Even the L365 attempt didn't work.
  • reaperreaper April 2011
Does the link Kosher posted work in the first post?
  • reaperreaper April 2011
@koshermetal I forgot to mention, nice job on your website.
  • DocDoc April 2011
Nope, but it did the other day. This time I get some site called moonfruit.com...wtf??
  • reaperreaper April 2011
    LOL
  • reaperreaper April 2011
Must be a Canadian thing. ;-)
  • DocDoc April 2011
The message says it may be caused by a misconfiguration on the server...???
  • koshermetalkoshermetal April 2011
    @reaper Thanks man \m/

@Doc moonfruit is the company my main site is hosted through. They were having some issues yesterday so it might be related, crap! Does the Listen Now link on the Now Playing tab link to LC?
  • DocDoc April 2011
Yeah I see the current song playing just fine...but get zip when I try to listen, like Leo's..
  • DocDoc April 2011
Oh and YES the LISTEN NOW takes me to LC just fine....
  • reaperreaper April 2011
It all works fine over here Kosher.
  • koshermetalkoshermetal April 2011
Hmmm...perhaps it IS an international thing. I'm going to look into it when I get to a comp. Might be some issues with IWIPA. Everything was working fine for me earlier on Reapers site.
  • koshermetalkoshermetal April 2011
    Oh ok...thanks guys.
  • DocDoc April 2011
I tried IE and NO GO there either...crap!...
  • reaperreaper April 2011
    Doc, fire your ISP.
  • reaperreaper April 2011
I did the same thing on my 80's station:

    http://www.facebook.com/pages/80s-Party-Machine/135414166510417
  • koshermetalkoshermetal April 2011
    Nice! @reaper

@doc I don't get the moonfruit thing on my side....weird!
  • DocDoc April 2011
Oh well don't worry about it. I don't imagine I'll be here much longer to enjoy it anyway.
  • DocDoc April 2011
Leo....seems today is all just peachy. I see your LISTEN choices and they both work perfectly. How did you get all this to show?. Looks very good!
  • DocDoc April 2011
Well that was short-lived. Now it does the same as last night - nothing!...wtf?
  • reaperreaper April 2011
It's either your ISP or your computer.
  • reaperreaper April 2011
Oh, it's real easy once you figure out where to start.
