adobe has called a quit on developing flash for mobile device
  • HoolHool November 2011
there is no doubt that many internet broadcasters are gonna be having a fit over this developement. I suspect after trying so damn hard to get apple to budge over allowing flash on there devices may have cause them to realize. What gives?

I'm not sure everyone is gonna embrace HTML5 very much

I sure hope Loudcaster starts using this instead as it would open the door for us to be able to look at our stats, listen, edit and everything we want to do from our Droids, blackberry or iPhones/iPads. Plus there are other good smartphones that will also support HTMS5. I've read about this a while back that this may be an alternative to Flash due to its larger footprint.

As someone who is in a grad school interactive communications program, where it is the professors' job to be on the cutting edge of this stuff, I can tell you with complete confidence that HTML5 (along with CSS3) is going to be the absolute standard for at least the next few years. This is a major overhaul for the basic framework of websites and multimedia platforms, and I'm here to tell you from what I know, the sooner that LoudCaster (or anybody else for that matter) embraces HTML5 compatibility, the better.

HTML5 is still young and new but it has a long way to go since not everyone is enbracing it. early this year there been many fuss over it due to the royal bickering. Safari is surely already embracing the fomat but everyone is unsure of it. it may take at least a year or two before everyone catch on.

I for one, am glad that Flash is possibly on it's last leg, and volunteer to drive the stake through it's heart!!

One thing you are not getting is that HTML5 is just basically the latest version of HTML. It will make websites that use it work faster on lower end PC's and older machines. Not to mention smartphones that have a smaller processor. I say bring it on!

flash had it share of serious flaws. that why adobe was stubborn about the stubborn attitude that Jobs had about flash. he been trying to say for years that is dated and prones for problems. not to mention that is was a hotbed for hackers and virus creators. I mean look what happen to java scripts. that got ripped to stred not thanks to exploits from hacker and virus creators.

a fresh new format is the best option especialy for smartphone.

Flash is fine for desktops for a while.

HTML 5 is great in theory, but the powers that be decided on a standard before adopting an official codec. HTML 5 is somewhat of a mess and it's much better suited for audio files, it has poor support for streaming media. However it is the future, I just want it to be now!

Mobile has it's own set of challenges. Right now it's all about apps. Either building your own or integrating with an existing one. We've already got a mobile solution with TuneIn, and we'll have two when our own apps are out.

Hey brandon, like I said before. HTML5 is a new and young. it may take at least a year or so for the stuff get straighting and iron out.

apps. seem to be a better option due to the unstable nature of Flash nowadays. adobe have had so much of problem with it. it not surprise that apple saw it a mile aways.

If they stop it for mobile, how long till Adobe says "No More Flash for desktops."? I think Loudcaster should be working in the background for a solution in case this happens.

On a positive note: Glad to hear your working on apps for smartphones. Loudcaster will be able to brand itself better this way. A Loudcaster channel for the Roku will be nice too but you can still get Loudcaster stations through TuneIn for those that decide to be listed (and I don't know why you would not want to be).

I guess its all a slow process but at least we're improving on what we have to work with now.

For what it's worth, Brandon has mentioned to me that they are already aware of the HTML5 issue and have plans in place if/when flash becomes a dinosaur. He did not get specific, but the issue has been addressed.

Once again good to hear that too. We're still growing lol.
