TOS and the Second output
  • bltcbltc October 2011
    Greetings 'casters,

I am currently running a trial of loudcaster to assess it's suitability to my needs and have run accross some ambiguities.

When the "second output" option is active in ACC+ mode, there is a slider on the flash player for users to select stream quality, however with the mp3 option no such option exists.

I have noticed that some stations solve this by adding a link to http://icecast0x.loudcaster.com:80/xxx.64 etc on the stations private webpage, however it was my initial understanding that this is a breach of the agreement. Is that so? Or is simply launching by refering to loudcasters icecast servers required? Can I create FLASH/M3U/XSPF links provided they all point to http://icecast0x.loudcaster.com:80/xxx.64, http://icecast0x.loudcaster.com:80/xxx.32 and the like?

The documentation is somewhat unclear in this regard. The dashboard refers to the mp3 stream as "more accessible" however if all streams must be played in the flash player, this seems irrelevent. The TOS refers to "The User's stream URLs will only exist on a page provided for by Loudcaster, although the streamed media will not be stored and/or streamed through Loudcaster". Which seems odd.

    Thank you for your time,

    Hello

There are a few problems with this.

Anyone that circumvents the Loudcaster launch page assumes all the responsibility for the legality of their broadcast.

There isn't a need to display the switch on the Loudcaster pages because the first stream sounds better and it works within the browser.

We added the mp3 option so Loudcaster streams would with a third party systems we integrate with. The stream url's are subject to change, so its important they be accessed from officially supported players.

Howdy, Stranger!
