Ogg is way better than MP3
  • NounosSonNounosSon August 2011
Yesterday when I did my show on my station i streamed in ogg 128kb instead of mp3 128kb. It sounded way better than mp3. Even when it is decoder back to 64kb it still sounded better. Has anyone else tried this?

Yes OGG is. Plus on Loudcaster the highest Mp3 stream is 64. When you stream on OGG 64K you get better frequency response. I've experimented with Icecast and way back years ago Streamerp2p. When I streamed @ 64K OGG I got response from listeners that my station had a better more rich sound quality. I only wish Loudcaster had OGG output to the web player. This way the listeners would experience higher resolution. AAC+ is good however @ 64K but it doesn't do well with re converting Mp3 to AAC+ as well as Mp3 go OGG. Plus there are flash players that can play OGG. The Downside to OGG is that mobile devices like the Droid can't yet stream OGG at least from my experiment on a FREE radio site that streamed in lots of formats. Because of royalty issues I only did this to experiment. I streamed @ 64K OGG and their flash player sounded great. Then I entered the URL into XiiaLiveLite for the droid and it started to play and then stuck. I think this is why Loudcaster does not yet offer OGG output. I'll let you know when I find a player for the Droid capable of it.
