Loudcaster Version 2 is on the way
  • brandonbrandon July 2011
Just a quick note. We've been super busy. No ETA on this yet, but the next version of Loudcaster is on the way. Some features include:

A graceful fade-in-out between live broadcasting and DJBot modes.
    Better cross-fading
    Better scheduling

    We'll keep you posted.
  • songbookdjsongbookdj July 2011
Sounds absolutely brilliant Brandon. When you say better scheduling do you mean in the next version there will be the ability to assign tracks to different categories and schedule them as in a clock wheel type thing ? Say you could have 3 tracks of a certain category in an hour etc. This was mooted a way back as a possible future feature, would be really good for us restricted to the DJBot. Anyway I'm sure the improvements will be great Loudcaster has already came a long way in a comparatively short time.
  • triptrip July 2011
Thanks Brandon, sounds like some good upates.
  • HoolHool July 2011
hope the new site design won't look like a bloated pigsty like L365. however I am glade that a new version of the scheduling featuring is getting some long needed updating.

    good luck
  • JackJack July 2011
I know the current scheduling is labeled Beta, but I found it too difficult to use and after spending hours setting up a schedule it disappeared, so I gave up using it. Just a few ideas that would be nice if it is possible:

    1.) drag & drop
    2.) display accumulated playing time
3.) ability to schedule tracks that don't play on regular rotation
4.) option to begin and end at an exact time or play a complete schedule.

I believe some of these and other ideas were put forward by email in the past. In any case, I am sure it will be a big improvement and I am really looking forward to it. Related to this, it would be nice if we could sort the tracks in the "manage audio" section by title, album, or genre.
  • network59network59 July 2011
I hope that yall can make the Playlist have a beginning and ending time like Jack said and also give the it Random playing abilities instead of playing all the designated songs in that list in one order. Pleeeeaaaaasssssseeeeee, we need that or something like that.
  • starrfoxxstarrfoxx July 2011
I agree with the ideas, but I'm also looking forward to LC2. One question, though. Will our existing playlists get transferred to LC2 or will we have to rebuild them all?
  • brandonbrandon July 2011
Right now a scheduled playlist isn't won't start until the current track finishes. The biggest improvement for scheduled playlists is they start on time. If unscheduled content is playing, it will fade out when scheduled playlist is due to start, and the scheduled content begins.

  • AtnevonAtnevon July 2011
Just a note here: I'd be tempted to switch to LoudCaster from LoudCity if station pages could be customized a bit more here.
  • starrfoxxstarrfoxx August 2011
Here's a question for you, Brandon.

What if you have one playlist that plays after another one? Does the last song fade out, so the next playlist starts on time? Or is the fade out feature only for Auto to Playlist or Auto to Live? Can it be turned on or off?
  • thelegacythelegacy August 2011
Yea Leo love the video on Loudcaster 2. Brandon sent me the Email yesterday. I was working so hard on my station that I didn't see it till Today. Love the new listener stats. Now we'll know how many TuneIn and Web listeners we have as well as our Shoutcast ones. The new interface is a cross between centovacast and Loudcaster's own make up. This is what I wanted to see as a broadcaster.

    Keep Rockin.
  • DJTDJT August 2011
The stats have me very excited. That looks like something that will attract broadcasters, for sure.

The interface looks cleaner too. That video didn't give me enough...haha. I just want to see more. Namely, I'm wondering what the overall look will look like. But, I'm just excited to see some progress. It looks promising.

  • reaperreaper August 2011
Well, the new version will look different. Brandon shared a screenshot of the preliminary design. From what I saw, the new design will make a nice and easy to use website a great site. I know Brandon has been working late hours enhancing all the new features. I am excited to see the final version.
  • gogringosgogringos August 2011
I am trying to upload a playlist (.m3u) file. When I move it via filezilla, I do not see it anywhere in my playlist section.

I know I can manually create the playlist on the site but with so many tracks it takes forever. Any ideas anyone?
  • reaperreaper August 2011
Did you try the web upload for your playlist? I have never tried it but it might work.
  • JackJack August 2011
Hi reaper - where does LC hide the web upload feature?
  • network59network59 August 2011
    Awesome!
  • reaperreaper August 2011
Well, I guess I spoke out of turn. Loudcaster is not going to support FTP anymore, sorry. I just found this out a few minutes ago. A new video on uploading tracks with the new version of Loudcaster will be out soon. Watch your email.
  • JackJack August 2011
I was finally able to connect to the link reaper posted without getting a 404 error. From what I see on the video, I am impressed. I never did get the email, however.
  • reaperreaper August 2011
From now on I will post links to the videos as they are released. Nice looking things in store for us broadcasters.
  • ctownbluesctownblues August 2011
    That looks pretty slick
  • golfing123golfing123 September 2011
    Hey staff

how much longer until this loudcaster v2 is ready to be used
  • BombedshaunBombedshaun September 2011
Hopefully soon. Looking forward to it.
  • network59network59 October 2011
Ok, I'm curious. I know it's been a while since someone has asked last, but I was wondering if there is an estimated time of arrival for the new system. Just would like to have an update.
  • reaperreaper October 2011
Brandon posted an update in this thread last week:
    http://forum.loudcaster.com/discussion/182/its-almost-a-month#Item_11
  • JaysonTannerJaysonTanner October 2011
Don't get too overly anxious. Beta testing is fulla buggy problems that the tech staff can't seem to fix yet.
  • brandonbrandon October 2011
Just a heads up, the bulk of the problems we worked on with involved a live broadcast and the all the data indicated this was a network problem outside of Loudcaster's network.
  • golfing123golfing123 October 2011
    hey staff

can i test out the new loudcaster dashboard please

    thanks
  • brandonbrandon October 2011
Here is the player in action....

I'm confident we'll be live by the end of the Fall.
  • Well we be able to put our logo anywhere on the player? As it is, I have my page pretty well branded.

  • HoolHool November 2011
player looks nice but I usualy use my computer on high contrast due to that fact that I hate white backgrounds. it irritate my eyes. it looks really good but what worry me is browser compatiblity. relaying on flash or high interface can be prone for issues after testing is done. however it looks so much better than the clutter mess that some site uses. I hate crowded looking pages. it hard to avoid mention Live 365 but this layout is far superior than the jumble slob that place looks like. I'm fed up with sites trying to be something they're not when it comes to web designs. they wanna copy and make they're own spin of it.

I say bravo Brandon. can't wait to see what you done when it ready.
  • thelegacythelegacy November 2011
Live365 relies on ads to try and lower costs. Plus Pro broadcasters can make $$ via ads. I can see soon all internet Radio licensing providers including streamlicensing.com and even loudcaster itself doing it due to high royalty rates. Ads could also support 128K mp3 sound which many folks here want.

What I think is unfair about Live365 is that they force listeners to use only their website to listen to your stream unless you're an x5000, Pro broadcaster or your listener is a VIP.

I'm not here to slam Live365 for they have some things I like and Loudcaster has some things I like. Best thing is if you can afford it use them both. Live365 solely for the 128K stream and Loudcaster for the 10GB AutoDJ, AAC+ for mobile users (very important here) and ease of use. Nothing wrong with using more than one stream host and having more than one link on your website. If one host fails the other will be a back up and you won't lose all your listeners. Many large stations do this.
  • HoolHool November 2011
I'm not bashing them entirely but they have made some pretty rediculous choices. their website is a classic example of how damn crampy it looks. after having issues with accessing there site last winter. I just had to call a quit over there and move here.

live365 has gotten too big for it own good
  • thelegacythelegacy November 2011
Well the got a new CEO and by the looks of things they want to bring in huge companies like State Farm to sponsor them. They also have an intro pack (which I use for the picky listeners wanting that 128K) at $10/Mo you may as well say. You only get 5 FREE listeners but if someone is dead set on 128K they may go VIP. Why did I mention this ? Well if Loudcaster had optional ads on stations before its tuned in then Loudcaster could rake in enough revenue for things like more slots, higher mp3 bitrates, covers the high cost (and ever growing) for royalties to allow this site to remain 100% legit.

For the ads pack it should also allow for an intro rate where a broadcaster can have a loudcaster launch page only or allow for embedding your own player but a listener has to go to Loudcaster. If you want your station on Shoutcast,Tunein then of course the rates are a little higher.

One thing that could separate Loudcaster from Live365 is that say a broadcaster got a really good deal on a server supporting 128K. You want to have AutoDJ (or maybe not) you could opt to use Loudcaster for the license provider port their AutoDJ to your server and they monitor for royalties and your station would launch from the Loudcaster page and Shoutcast ect as it does now.

I think this could bring more broadcasters to Loudcaster if you had that option. I see a huge potential for growth here.
  • HoolHool November 2011
I really think loudcaster need to very careful. if you made some arrogant and careless moves. they get some shit like what happening to Netflix.

I strongly recommend to start small and slow. going too fast can create a PR mess.

sound L365 could very likely be on it last leg very soon. I predict they're most likely fold in about 2 or 3 years.

they really made some poor gambles last year with that dreadful website redesign.
  • reaperreaper November 2011
Here is my take on this. Live365 provides a decent service as does Loudcaster. Live365 relies on commercial revenue and penalizes live broadcasters by cutting the free listener slots in half. But, this also helps keep broadcasters fees down.

I think a tastefully placed static ad (no animations) in a pop out player, similar to what TuneIn does. I would stay away from Google Adsence though. But, if HTML5 is going to be the standard going forward, I wont have as much of a problem leaving a web page open to listen as I do with Flash.
  • radiowaynetxradiowaynetx November 2011
Hool stated "sound L365 could very likely be on it last leg very soon. I predict they're most likely fold in about 2 or 3 years."

radiowayne wonders what Hool is basing this on. Live365 has been around for some 12 years. Live365 has a brand, new dynamic CEO with a proven track record. radiowayne sees Live365 and Loudcaster as complementary yet competitive services with slightly different business models at this point in time.

But, then again, he could be wrong.

    Wayne G. aka radiowayne

  • reaperreaper November 2011
"radiowayne sees Live365 and Loudcaster as complementary yet competitive services"

    Well said RadioWayne!!
  • HoolHool November 2011
well you maybe right but if they kinda got themselve in a serious mess with the redesign website last year or so. the release the new version well too soon. they could have waited another damn 12 months to get more kinks iron out and also I really hate seeing website pages trying to use other website as templets for there creative designs. after how they wanted to kinda do what pandora was doing I began to realize. they just shot themselves. look at myspace. is a sloppy mess and live365 ruin themselve by being a slob.

I switch to loudcaster for 3 reasons. one it was getting expensives, 2. there website was such a piss to get access due to some month long DOS bullshit, and 3, Loudcaster has commercial free stations.

I really don't see them lasting any longer in this decade.
  • thelegacythelegacy November 2011
I see Internet Radio as a whole blossoming into a huge success for there is another company in the mix and that is streamlicensing.com it looks to be a knock off of Loudcity however or could be another swcast.net. Interesting enough they are from Alabama and the have a contact number just like SWcast.net did. they also want you to launch your station from their page but will allow you to be listed in Itunes. Loudcaster is like a all in one package license, AudioDJ and server as is Live365. I don't like the fact that Live365 uses some knock off of Shoutcast and yet is not a shoutcast server. Icecast and Shoutcast both have been around for about 12 yrs Shoutcast being my choice however. The fact that you are not listed on the Shoutcast directory makes Live365 another listen2myradio.com knock off but if you have the X5000 then its worth it.

I'll always use Loudcaster as it has great use and will probably grow fast. It took 12 years for Live365, and yet in just 2 Loudcaster has leaped past many other services. I predict that both Loudcaster and Live365 will always set the industry standard for all in one stream hosting.
  • songbookdjsongbookdj November 2011
Live 365 definitely has its place I used their service for many years and was reasonably happy with it. Its quite good as a starter for an Internet radio station, I think it offers something different from Loudcaster yes its a one stop for streaming, server etc but more restrictive with the ads etc. They are a competitor but also in a sense a friend as they also provide a chance for anyone to start a radio station.

However I have to agree about last year's website redesign it was a disaster and for me ruined the listener experience so I finally left. With a new computer now it would probably work smoother but one thing I really didn't like about the redesign was it forced ads for featured stations on your station page. As I said its ok for a starter and its possible to build an audience but I always hit a ceiling and couldn't go any further, the design of the site doesn't make it easy to get many listeners, advertising other stations on your page which already get plenty of traffic certainly won't help. On Loudcaster at times I've been getting double the listenership I had with Live 365.
  • alphaomegaalphaomega December 2011
Here is my question, I really like the new radio pages with the alternating images and the layout. How do I intergrate this into my website that I can also add what I have on there presently?

    www.blackroseradio.com
  • reaperreaper December 2011
@alphaomega just curious if you have ASCAP/BMI/SESAC licensing?
  • alphaomegaalphaomega December 2011
I have licensing thru loudcaster, been a member for awhile now at least 6 or more months since SWCast went out of business.
  • reaperreaper December 2011
@alphaomega, your license through Loudcaster doesn't extend to allow streaming directly off your website.
  • alphaomegaalphaomega December 2011
There is not an active player on the page and the tunegenie is a link to their site. But all the music is run off of Sam's basically live and the same for loudcaster and shoutcast.

Can you explain more about the streaming then?

Also was looking to intregrate what I have for the website and loudcasters new layout because I would like to use loudcaster page as a background basically and have the things on the website to overlay in the center. Is this possible becaue of the multiple pages I have?
