RadioBoss and M3U playlists question
  • RavishalRavishal May 2011
Having used SAM3 for years and ZaraRadio for the past few months I have mymusic broken down into 3 main playlists in the .m3u format. Zara reads these directly and SAM can ingest them and incorporate them into its database. How do I get these into RadioBoss?
I'm playing with the demo right now and I can of course build up the Music Library easily enough. However when I create scheduled events my pre-created playlist files load up OK, but the songs refuse to play and I get the Error Code = 2 (can't read file) error comes up. What's going on?
I would hate to recreate all 3 playlists from scratch as my total track count is in excess of 10,000 files!

I'm using RadioBoss, and have been for a while, and I still can't figure it out entirely. I'm gradually switching over to StationPlaylist, and I use their scheduler.

Sorry, I don't know the answer to this. Maybe check the RadioBoss forums? I don't know if they would have an answer.

M3U is a standard playlist type. I think RadioBoss has a "Load Playlist" feature if I'm not mistaken.

BTW, dang that is a lot of files!!!!!

I had problems getting RadioBoss to read playlists I created with SAM when I use to use that. I had to start from scratch. Plus I noticed that even Winamp can't read the playlists created with RadioBoss.

Forget RadioBoss...it sucks!. Use Zara. Zara as you know will let you create a m3u playlist
which you can upload. Why would you stop using Zara?. I used to have hair until I tried to use RadioBoss
    A complete waste of money!

Don't you have to use a separate encoder for Zara? and what about scheduling auto ID's? I like RadioBoss because its easy to set up and easy to drag and drop from my huge playlist.

I've not tried Radiodj.ro yet and that was FREE but habits are hard to change now that I've gotten use to RadioBoss.

There is some set-up with Zara yes, but works perfectly. Even using the mic works fine. I have a playlist maker (saves as m3u) so scheduling ID's are not a problem. You can drag/drop with Zara as well. RadioBoss for scheduling or anything, is a complete waste of time.

As you know, I use Sam and put my music in separate folders and use a PAL script to automate my stations. It works well and also inserts a Top Hour ID which is the only interruption in the music.

I don't think RadioBoss is bad software, but it's sometimes buggy and hard to follow. They seemingly update the software every other week or so.

OK, that's an exaggeration, but you know what I mean.

I like RB a whole bunch, but then again, I'm not familiar with what else is out there. Like I said, I'm gradually transitioning to SPL, but that's gonna take some time. This stuff is not cheap.

Now that I've said that, has anyone used mAirlist? or Direttore? I checked out both of those but didn't dive into them.

The playlist I originally created with SAM I now update with WinAmp. Zara works fine except for 2 things, the output text only uses the file name which in my case is Artists - title and the 2nd thing is the interminable delay when switching to one of the two larger playlists. Here recently it is taking much longer to load, say 8-10 second. 10 seconds of silence seems like forever. It used to be maybe 2 seconds at worst.

Yes, it requires an external encoder. I use Edcast which works fine for me.

I'd like a nice tidy package that does it all but isn't overly complicated, it does NOT use SQL, and can be driven by the clock. Free works for me too ;)

If you tagged your tracks Zara would show what it needs which is ARTIST/TITLE/ALBUM in that order. You must have all three to be compliant. The output file name must contain all three which is what you want. And if your playlists were shorter, say 18-24 hours, it would easily switch without delay. For anyone who isn't aware, Zara is FREE and has a ton of great features.

@Ravishal, have you tried Sam with a Firebird Database? I have used it for four years and the only problem I have with Sam is it will lock up after running 3-4 months without stopping. But that could be a Windows issue.
  • RavishalRavishal May 2011
I've found the issue with my playlists. If you save the .M3U file on the same drive as the music files it omits the drive letter. This is a "relative path" to the files. If I saved the files to another drive/partition it includes the drive letter. Once I did that Radio boss was able to correctly read and execute the playlists.

Oh wow that is nice to know.
  • RavishalRavishal May 2011
@Reaper, I may consider doing that.
